Bayberry Candles

Bayberry History

Bayberry candles have a rich history dating back to colonial America. Early settlers found that boiling the berries of the bayberry shrub yielded a small amount of precious wax, which they used to make candles when candle wax was scarce. The process to harvest bayberry is toilsome. Bayberry wax candles lit the way through perilous times. As a result, these candles became a sign of prosperity and a symbol of good fortune and were eventually burned on special occasions. Today, these candles are burned throughout the holiday season, specifically on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
