How does a scented vessel work without a flame?

Scented wax doesn't need heat to release fragrance — it does so gently at room temperature, a property candlemakers call cold throw. A vessel is cold throw made into the whole product: a solid piece of richly scented wax with its surface fully open to the air, quietly perfuming the space around it around the clock.
